Are you obsessed with something? Planet 9 is collecting stories about personal obsessions to be published in an upcoming release. We are looking for written entries, of ~2000 words, on the topics: object of desire, subject of interest or personal artefact. The submissions are to be delivered by September 30 2026.
About Planet 9
Planet 9 is an independent publishing platform highlighting personal obsessions. It creates a space for sharing of fascinations with objects, places, and lived experiences.
Planet 9 fosters an interactive, two-way relationship between the author and the reader. Through purposeful multichannel approaches, it blurs the line between physical — digital, and private — public. Content in hands and content on screen complement and add to one another.
It gives emerging artists, designers and writers the opportunity to share what they are passionate about.
The platform’s ecosystem consists of: a quarterly physical newsletter, an annual expansion publication, and ongoing accompanying digital content.
About the project
The upcoming publication is a space for designers, artists, and authors to reflect on what interests them. Its goal is to lead towards a relationship with writing and the formation of one’s own opinion, which is essential today for creatively minded and socially engaged individuals. It stands in contrast to, or alongside, conventional academic writing and invites contributors to reflect on their personal obsessions and, through them, naturally explore broader socio-political issues in a relaxed, informal language.
The theme of the first release is The Object, be it an object of desire, a subject of interest or a personal artefact. We ask: Why are we drawn to things? How are they a part of us? What do they say about us?
Technicals
The text can be anything you want it to be. The lenght should be around ~2000 words but feel free to go beyond. The chosen contributors will be notified via e-mail no later than October 12 2026.
Compensation
Planet 9 is an independent, self-funded project. At this time there is no compensation available for entries. We have however applied for funding and our budget takes into account fair compensation for all creative labour. The information about available compensation will be released upon getting the funding resolution.
